Studio 104 Entertainment was founded in 2019 by four creatives; Mike Johnston, Diana Parry, Andy Alvarez, and Martin Calvo. From humble beginnings, collaborating on each other's short films while completing their BFAs in Film Production at UBC to championing an award-winning film and television production company.
Their first narrative feature, “Wild Goat Surf,” premiered at the 2023 Vancouver International Film Festival and was a provincial co-production between British Columbia and Quebec. The Leo Awarded feature was supported by Telefilm Canada, Bell Media, Creative BC, and SODEC. In 2024, the TELUS Originals feature documentary, “Curl Power,” premiered at the 2024 Hot Docs Film Festival. The coming-of-age story has screened at every major film festival in Canada.
Through cultivating strong relationships with partners and financiers such as TELUS Originals, Telefilm Canada, Creative BC, Bell Media and more, their budgets have grown from $5K to $5 million in six years and they cracked the Top 40 in Playback Magazine’s Indie List in 2023 and 2024.
From culturally diverse backgrounds such as Latin American, First Nations, European and Canadian, Studio 104 Entertainment prioritizes inclusivity in all aspects of collaboration. Whether in development, production or post - creating a respectful space for creative dialogue is imperative. Teaming up with diverse filmmakers to bring unique and original ideas to the screen is the driving force behind the company’s mission.
